Isn’t it fascinating that there are some crazy people around the world who are ready to shed more than Rs 300 crore for a car which could be purposefully used or invested somewhere else. Yes, you read it right a car! And I am damn sure that almost every one of us would've invested somewhere else like real estate or shares. Or, a luxury world trip, owing a fleet of jet or yacht and god knows what else.

But, there is one machine, a car, which holds the crown of selling for over Rs 340 crore or $ 48.4 million and it is an investment!! Ferrari is that one word which resembles with speed and color red. Their design, technology, quality, heritage and performance is so breathtaking that every car enthusiast out there would love to have one and for many cases in their dreams.  Yes, its Ferrari 250 GTO, build during 1962-1964 for GT races and were sold only to special customers which were personally approved by Enzo Ferrari.

This Ferrari was sold by Dr. Gregory Whitten, the chairman of Numerix software, who purchased it in 2000 at a price of $10 million and it isn’t a joke, this really was a lot of money during that time. But, the price it auctioned after 18 years is totally insane. The car was sold at RM Sotheby’s auction in Monterey, California to a private person whose identity is unknown.

Now what do you think? Is it a better investment or just a moronic purchase? Well, this is the reality guys, cars like these are special and you really need to have that passion and extremely deep pocket to buy one of these. Looking at the numbers, it is for sure that returns on such investments are really high. Because Mr Whitten also said that even shares of Microsoft owned by him would not have yielded such great returns.

Money keeps aside; many Ferrari enthusiasts also believed that 250 GTO was one of top sports car and hottest car of its time. There is one more interesting news related to 250 GTO is that apart from the above mentioned auction, another 250 GTO (chassis 4153GT) was sold for $70 million (Rs 477 Crore approx) in a private sale. Yeah, I know we would never be able to see them in real life but knowing that a machine on four wheels could cost as much as a Bungalow in Mumbai (even more than that) is really fascinating.
